Where attachments live

Attachments can be placed on several items. Choosing the right one is what makes a document findable later — and, more importantly, what keeps it from looking like it applies to people it does not concern.

ItemWhat belongs there
Actionwhat concerns the obligation itself: the material to deliver, a test to administer, the technical sheet of a machine, the text of a procedure — see Attach files to an action
Personwhat belongs to that individual: a certificate they obtained, an identity document
Certificatethe original document issued by a third party, and the forms completed on issuing
Session datethe completed attendance register — see Fill in a form during an activity
Supplierthe supplier’s own documentation
Approvalthe certificate submitted for validation — see The Approvals interface
Eventphotographs and documents completing the report of an injury or a near miss

On every one of these, attaching means either uploading a new file or linking one already in the archive — see Files and attachments.
